* I Hear Voices
I frequently forget that I am okay just as I am, and I bet you do, too. I forget because there is a mean person inside my head who shit talks me night and day, seemingly against my will.
I got so excited when the idea of writing my own blog about the things that make me happy popped into my head. You know that feeling that comes when you hit on an idea that makes you so energetic you feel like nothing will stop you? I had that. Yay, me!
Then I made a mistake.
I googled “How to create a lifestyle blog.” And in just a few clicks I was wide-eyed with fear and self doubt. That's when the bullying started.
"Lifestyle blogs are a THING, Jennie. Blogging is for real writers with something to SAY. "
I felt my energy fade.
Turns out, there are secrets to blogging successfully, and lots of fancy women doing it really, really well. Glamorous women. Women who are so good at it that they get asked to officially review products. Women so good at it that they get invited to blogging conferences, lifestyle conferences, and blogging lifestyle conferences. Women so good at it that they go on to write books. "Jennie, you are not one of those women.
"Your blog will look silly. You'll start something that makes you look stupid. It'll just be a lamer version of blogs that are already out there. It'll wreck your professional brand. You'll sound like you think you're as cool, and beautiful, and hip, and healthy, and happy, as those other bloggers."
So I concluded I wouldn’t be a lifestyle blogger after all.
And then something in me fought that bully back. “FUCK. THAT." I said.
Here’s what I’m going to do: Write the blog I want to write and stop reading about how others have done it.
MyHappyPlaceBlog is going to cover the stuff I like to talk about with my girlfriends. And even if no one reads it, I’m going to have so much fun writing it that it won’t matter! And that’s enough. Me doing what I really want to do is enough.
And here’s something else: I’m going to make sure this blog isn’t the kind that makes a reader like you feel like you aren’t enough.
You are enough, and if you don’t believe me, believe the loving voice inside you that relentlessly tries to overcome the bully who also lives there. "You are enough! You are enough! You are enough!" it patiently chants.
To help me amplify that voice I subscribe to a sweet email called The Daily Flame.
This short, uplifting message comes to you from what it calls Your Inner Pilot Light. It's a free daily email from Dr. Lissa Rankin, one of the most authentic inner bully fighters out there. You’ll love it.
Back to you being enough. I’m writing this blog despite almost being scared off by my inner bully. I hope that if there is something you've been wanting to do that MyHappyPlaceBlog will spark a light in your heart that helps you finally do it. (And if all you want to do is go into the kitchen for another chocolate chip cookie that's ambitious enough.)
This'll spark another light in you: Check back here on August 28th for an awesome gift being offered ONLY to my readers by a luxury beauty product company. How's that for happy?
